Guest lecture of Mr. Ryosei Kokubun, Former President of the National Defense Academy of Japan and Professor Emeritus at KEIO University, Japan

Prof. Ryosei Kokubun, who is currently staying in Hungary through BC4LS, gave a guest lecture for the students of the Regional and Environmental Economics Master’s Programme in the framework of the Regional Economic Development course led by Dr. Mária Szalmáné Csete.

The lecture reviewed the brief history of East Asian geopolitical history in the modern era - covering major historical events and processes of the last 150 years. 

Professor Ryosei Kokubun attended Keio University for his bachelor of arts degree in law in 1976 and his master of arts degree in law in 1978. He obtained his PhD in law at the same Keio University in 1981.  In 1981, he became an assistant professor at Keio University. He was a visiting scholar at Harvard University’s FairBank Center, the University of Michigan’s Center for Chinese Studies, Fudan University, and Peking University. He had previously served as Dean of the Faculty of Law and Politics of the Graduate School of Law at Keio University from 2007 to 2012, as President of the Japan Association for Asian Studies from 2008 to 2012, and as President of the Japan Association of International Relations from 2012 to 2021, and President of the National Defense Academy of Japan between 2012-2021. His main area of interest is Chinese politics.
